Before you choose

A gift under £10 still has to suit the child who opens it. These ten ideas run from soft toys marked from birth to Crystal Art kits marked 6+, from Mamas & Papas, Le Toy Van and Craft Buddy. Each card shows the price the maker's own site gave when we checked it, and the age marking, so you can match the gift to the child before the price.

Start with the age marking

Two ideas are marked from birth by Mamas & Papas: a soft lion rattle and a fruit chain that clips to a pushchair. The counting puzzle is marked 18 months+ and the wooden fire engine 2+. The four Le Toy Van pretend-play sets are marked 3+, and the two Crystal Art kits are marked for ages 6 and over with an adult.

Treat each marking as a safety instruction rather than a guide to difficulty. A gift marked 3+ is not for a baby who puts everything in their mouth, however small the price.

Small gifts that add to something bigger

Several of these work best alongside a toy the child already has. The card machine suits a play shop or café, the doughnuts suit a play kitchen, and the chicken coop and peg dolls are made to fit Le Toy Van's dolls houses. The fire engine is one of a collection of 50 wooden cars, so it is easy to add another later.

If you are buying for a child you do not know well, the counting puzzle and the Crystal Art kits stand on their own and need nothing else.

For a baby's first Christmas

Two ideas here are marked from birth, and both suit the way a young baby plays: something soft to hold, with sounds and textures to discover. The lion rattle is sized for small hands to grasp and shake, and the fruit chain clips on with a C-ring and has two teethers for the months when everything goes in the mouth.

Before you wrap

Small gifts often end up in a stocking that a younger brother or sister can reach. Crystal Art crystals are tiny, so wrap those kits for the older child only, and keep the crystals out of reach once the presents are open.

  • Check the age marking on the packaging and follow any warning.
  • Check the retailer's delivery charge: on a small order it can be a large part of the total.
  • Open the box before wrapping and check that every part is there, as UK safety guidance advises.

How these ideas were chosen and priced

Every product here is from the TopTenToys catalogue the owner approved, bought through Awin from Mamas & Papas, Le Toy Van or Craft Buddy, each the maker of the products it sells. We checked each age marking, the contents and the price on the maker's own product page on 1 October 2026, and the sources at the foot of the page link to each one. Mamas & Papas changed its prices after that, so its two ideas were checked again on 5 October. The ten run from the youngest age marking to the oldest, which is not a TopTenToys ranking.

Prices change, so each price is shown with the date we checked it. The retailer's page always has the current price, stock and delivery cost. We do not show Amazon prices, because Amazon allows them only from its own live data.
